Mortician License in New York
The state of New York does not grant mortician licenses, but it does grant funeral director licenses. Theses licenses are managed by the New York Bureau of Funeral Directing, New York State Department of Health.
To qualify for this license you will need to complete either 60 semester credit hours of 90 quarter credit hours from an accredited funeral service school. You must also pass the board exam and do an apprenticeship after you graduate.
After you graduate you will need to do a one-year residency. Once you have done eight months of your residency you must pass the New York state funeral director law exam.
To keep your licensure in this state you will need to complete 12 credit hours of continuing education classes every two years.
