Mortician License in Iowa
It is not possible to obtain a mortician license in Iowa, but it is possible to obtain a funeral director license here. The Iowa Board of Mortuary Science manages license applications.
Before you can apply for a license you will need to complete at least 60 credit hours of college classes, apart from any technical or vocational mortuary science classes.
The college or university you attend must be regionally credited. While you attend school you must earn a grade point average of at least a 2.0 or a “C” grade average. You will also be required to take a mortuary science class from a school that is accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education. You will be required to complete an apprenticeship before you can obtain a license.
To retain your licensed status in Iowa you must complete 24 hours of continuing education classes every two years.
