Mortician License in Hawaii

The state of Hawaii does not require funeral directors to have a license. However, the Hawaii Sanitation Branch of the Department of Health does require embalmers to be licensed.

To qualify, you must do one of three things: earn one year of practical experience and graduate from an approved embalming school, or earn two years of practical experience and earn your high school diploma, or earn five years of experience as an embalmer. The experience you earn in preparation for licensure must be done under the supervision of a licensed embalmer in the state.

There are not any continuing education requirements for embalmers in Hawaii.
